M.G. road
Today first time at Pune’s M.G.Road, checked some shops and found the first supermarket which reminds me of German ones. It also had chocolate and many more things from home.
Happy Diwali
tourist tour south goa
Yesterday we went to south Goa and saw quite some tourist attractions.
Waterfall
After a bumpy and wet (through river) ride with a Jeep in Mollem National Park we went to Dudhsagar waterfalls. I checked out the cold spring water – had a great waterfall shower.
Monkeys were everywhere. Some had red faces. The guide told me that these are the females. As some human females they use red stuff to beautify their faces.
Elephant ride
After the waterfall swim we had a short and expensive ride with an elephant around the corner.
Spice plantation
Betelnuts, Chilli, Coffee and many more plants were explained to us.
Churches and Temples
Checked a shiva temple on the way to the famous churches.
During the rides between locations we saw glimpses of a tyre company, Kingfisher beer and some ore mining areas. Unbelievably were the kilometer-long lines of ore trucks everywhere which smoked the air with thick diesel clouds. Just one little railroad track instead?
In the night we went to famous but quite remote Curlys bar and club near Anjuna.
Today we will fly back with Kingfisher red, an airline which shuts down soon.
Beach day
Saturday is our beach day. Unable to do any demanding tasks we hit Baga beach and stayed there for food and drinks. Cheers!
Sleeperbus
We had our trip in a Sleeperbus to Goa, started about at 21hrs in the night and we arrived before 8 in the morning. Despite the fact that this was quite a long and shaky bus trip we were still able to walk. This was my first time in a sleeper bus and now I know what 2+1 means. Choosing a lower compartment was good. Pictures? Let’s go:
Goa is waiting
This weekend we will have a crazy long bus ride to Goa (450km) – let’s see what the smallest State of India has to offer.
First time out
After some extensive working days cumulating in one big 25hrs session finally the workload decreases and immediately the time is used to explore the surroundings.
Atanu, Utsav, Lubos and me hit the inorbit mall and afterwards a bar district where we entered Shisha Cafe.
Lubos tried Kingfisher beer:
Yes – 1.5l, but shared with Atanu 🙂 Also for this picture I used my new Manfrotto ML360 for face lighting. However the Kingfisher is our main subject here, so lack of eye sharpness is excuseable.
Got my first Inseltee / Long Island Ice Tea in India:
Omelette with Koriander and Cheri, Cheri Lady
At breakfast I ordered the usual omelette with unusual ingredients like Koriander. Suddenly the next song of the background music started and surprise: German music in Pune?
Cheri, Cheri Lady by Modern Talking for breakfast.
Song heard also the next morning – no coincidence, so it must be a CD or something played every morning. The only possibility to avoid it might be to attend earlier. However quite funny to hear it during morning hours.
Fun fact: the song was released in 1985 and was a number one hit in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Norway.
Pune: Welcome to India
After a quite relaxing flight to Pune the plane arrived at 3am local time. Baggage pickup and customs were quick. Soon I found my driver to the Hotel. The short ride through the night of Pune streets showed only slight sneak peeks due to the darkness.
Until end of November 2011 this will me my base for going to work and check out the surroundings.
The Hotel is in Magarpatta City, an integrated township in the middle of Pune.
Pune, also known as the “Oxford of the East” is the eigth largest Metropolis in India and situated in Maharashtra state. It is known as town since 937 AD.
